“The diversity of Cape Town is what makes it so special. You can literally get so much from this one city. I’m talking beaches, mountains, culture, history. It makes it different from all the other regions in South Africa,” says Buntu Matole, a Cape Town local and co-founder of ABCD Concepts, a tourism business creating experiences in Khayelitsha, Cape Town’s largest township.

Before the apartheid regime ended in 1994, South African communities were segregated by race. “Townships were strategically planned as concentration camps for marginalized communities. But with different generations, these neighborhoods have evolved,” says Buntu. Today, Khayelitsha’s entrepreneurial spirit is embracing tourism.
