Atlanta, Georgia has been a LGBTQ embracing beacon for decades in an area of the United States not always associated with inclusivity. With a perfect score on the Human Rights Campaign’s Municipal Equality Index, the city’s first LGBTQ Advisory Board created by Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms and—just in case you had any doubts—a permanent rainbow crosswalk at the epicenter of the Midtown gayborhood, Atlanta is here to welcome you with its Southern charm.

Since its founding, the city has been pushing forward for marginalized communities. As the birthplace of Martin Luther King, Jr., the city is known as the “cradle of the civil rights movement” and its Sweet Auburn neighborhood considered the movement’s hub in the 1950s and 60s.

Today’s Atlanta continues its fight with a renewed focus on its LGBTQ community…
