New York, New York

Contrary to countless essays and opinion pieces, New York is not dead. New York is definitely different and struggling through the COVID-19 pandemic. But so is the rest of the world.

Amidst the tragedy of deaths, closures and quarantines, New Yorkers who have chosen (or are able) to stay during 2020 have the unique privilege of living in the city that never sleeps, even while it naps.

Remember all those times we complained about tourists walking too slow, tourists overcrowding Times Square, tourists… being tourists? Well, New York is now for New Yorkers.

To highlight the NYC-cation, NYC & Company (the city’s destination marketing organization) has launched the “All in NYC: Staycation Guides” to encourage locals and regional visitors to support New York. The initiative will highlight attractions, hotels, dinning, culture and all aspects of city life that are open for business. This is our chance to explore our city, without the crowds.

“Spending the summer in New York City is not a consolation prize,” says Fred Dixon, President of NYC & Company. “In lieu of summer vacations, we’re encouraging locals and tristate area visitors to act as tourists in their own city by safely exploring the five boroughs, considering an overnight stay and supporting our community when it is needed most.”
